Hinged Poles
The Mid hinged poles are special type of poles which have a special hinge fixed at the middle of pole shaft, so as to enable the mounting of equipments at the top of the pole and then the lowering down manually for the purpose of maintenance. The mounting equipments could be Light Fittings, Cameras, Antennas, Sirens, or any other suitable devices. One man only using a rope with pulley and avoiding the usage of carnage and the blockage of traffic can operate the mid-hinged poles easily, fast and securely. The mid-hinged poles can be designed with heights from 8m up to 30m only, with limitations on mounting equipments weights. The hinged poles consist of the following major parts Upper portion: The part of the pole, which is above the Hinge. This part consist of one, two or three segments based on the pole height Bottom portion: The part of the pole that is below the hinges. The bottom portion consists of one segment only Hinge device: Made of S.S. spindle. Jacket: The jacket is fabricated as one segment only. Shape: The mid-hinged poles are usually made out of continuously tapered steel shafts with octagonal shape or polygonal shape of sixteen sides, with dimensions and thickness complying with the structural design analysis and the functional requirement Shafts and jackets are made from steel sheets folded to the required shape; shafts are welded longitudinally by automatic arc welding machines. Shafts are made out of multiple segments depending on the height of the pole, each segment will have length of not more than 14m, with minimum overlap of 1.5 times the across flat of the female segment. As desired circular or Square base plate with holes suitable for the anchor bolts is welded to the bottom of the shaft by double fillet weld according to international standard, base plate will be open in the centre to allow the cables in. Base plate dimensions given are complying with structural design analysis and the foundation requirements. Anchor bolts to fix the base plate to the concrete foundation are supplied with the required nuts and washers and having the size and dimensions as per the structural analysis. Shaft is provided with a door opening at a convenient height with dimensions and size complying with the requirements of the required electrical equipments. Door opening is reinforced to maintain the shaft strength; In addition, a rubber gasket is fixed around the doorframe for weatherproofing. Door cover is fixed to the pole shaft by using a stainless steel chain or hinges. The door cover will be held in a position with Allen head locking screw. The jacket will be fixed to the pole shaft by using a suitable fixing bolt with lock nut for safety purpose. One set of required Rope, Lock Plate, Hook, D-Shackles, Pulley and Counter Weight (if required) will be provided with poles for its raising and lowering purposes. An Earthing lug is welded inside the shaft at the door opening level and equipped with the required bolts; nuts and washers for earthing, in addition, a brass-earthing strap will be fixed to pole shaft at the hinge device level for earthing purpose. Straightness, tolerances and plumpness of the pole are maintained within permissible limits according to international standards. Design: Mid hinged poles are designed according to AASHTO standard “ Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries and Traffic Signals “ and its latest revisions. Design wind speed is 160 Km/hr or as per the customer request multiplied by gust factor of 1.3 (Gust speed is 208 Km/ hr or as specified in the project specifications) Design of hinged poles is performed utilizing Computer software to analyse the pole shaft, jacket, base plate and anchor bolts. Material: Material used to fabricate the hinged pole components will be in accordance of international standards and as per the project specifications. Finishing: Shaft, Jacket, Base plate, and other accessories are hot dip galvanised according to BS EN 1461 and its recent revisions, the minimum average coating thickness is according to BS EN 1461, or as per the customer requirements, but not more than 120 microns in any case. No welding, cutting or drilling is done after galvanising. The anchor bolts including nuts and washers are hot dip galvanised according to ASTM A 153.
